Revolutionizing Musical Expression
Mari Kimura
Virtuoso violinist and composer Mari Kimura recently premiered new work and her groundbreaking extended bowing technique, in NYC . The new technique is performed with the help of sensor gloves, producing what Kimura calls “subharmonics”. Mari has made subharmonics her own, integrating it into her performances and recordings and encouraging other composers to do the same. Her album The World Below G, and her most recent CD, Polytopia feature the “subharmonics” technique.
Mari will talk about and demonstrate “subharmonics” and the other ways of introducing interactive and digital interfaces into future musical expression.
